Summer is a favorite for many because there are a plethora of fun, family-friendly events to keep you busy.
Although summer may be winding down, the busy schedule of events here in Pierce County.
Here is what is in store for the last weeks of the season.
Kids Kraze Festival In The Park
Location: Chambers Creek Regional Park
August 26, 2018
Time: 12-4
Cost: Free
Geared towards children ages 3-12, this festival is all about having a great time together with your little ones. There will be bounce houses, field games, vendors of all types and tons of yummy foods. An inflatable obstacle course is a must-do event, and there are also lots of arts and crafts for your kids to exercise their imaginations. Best of all, the Kids Kraze Festival is free for everyone to enjoy.
Kite Festival
Location: Chambers Creek Regional Park
August 4, 2018
Time: 10am-3pm
Cost: Free
Hosted by the Department of Recreation, this fun-filled event is all about kite flying. See some of the most incredible kites ever designed and how they fly. The first 250 kids to arrive at the Kite Festival will be able to make their own kite. Other activities will take place throughout the day as well. Many professional kite builders and flyers will also be on site for live demonstrations.
Family Camp Out
Chambers Creek Regional Park
August 18-19
Cost: $19.00 Adults, $15 children up to age 17
Registration is required to reserve your spot
Come bring the whole family to have a night of fun at the park. Enjoy camping, arts and crafts, lawn games, and even Lego building activities. Make s’mores and enjoy campfire food in the evening out under the stars. This is sure to be one of those evenings that your kids talk about for months so you won’t want to miss it! Keep in mind that you will need to bring your own tent and all of your own gear. A continental breakfast is provided on Sunday morning.
Movies In The Park
These movies are at different parks each Friday night throughout the summer. Festivities begin around 5pm, and the movies show at dusk. It is always a relaxing and enjoyable evening, and the movies are always family-friendly. Some of the movies showing in July and August include Cars 3, Moana, and Sherlock Gnomes. Announcements of which park and which movie are made weekly. When in doubt, Movies In The Park is a great way to start off the weekend as a family.
Third Thursday Museum Pass
Location: Tacoma Museum District

Admission: Free
Every third Thursday in Tacoma families can enjoy free admission to all of the museums in the museum district of Tacoma. This includes the Art Museum, the Glass Museum, and The Children’s Museum. Other participants include the Americas Car Museum, the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum, and the Washington State History Museum. The museums offer this free admission on every third Thursday throughout the year. Passes are available at a discounted price for access to these museums on other days of the year.
